I would rather drive go karts than 97% of all other activities in the world, combined. I made a list, I weighed my options and it’s true. Indoor go karting is is the top 3% of all possible things that a sentient being can do.

Nate’s problems with Godzilla

1) Does Godzilla love humans or hate other monsters?

2) Either way you have to admire the tenacity of the soldiers willing to fire thousands of rounds into something that can’t be injured by bullets.

3) Even after the monsters have been fighting in San Francisco for some time and the Golden Gate bridge has been destroyed there is an office full of office people doing office work, that are SURPRISED by the MONSTERS fighting just outside their window

4) I like that part where the soldiers whisper, like the Praying mantis monster is listening.

5) Hey helicopter pilots, maybe fly a little bit out of the reach of the monster, like a dog on a chain.

***We have two tickets to give away to this show so if you like what you hear, shoot us an email at***

Jake Orvis of the .357 String Band and the Goddamn Gallows is part of the Farmageddon family, a label that puts out what you might call neo- roots music. It’s hillbilly, mixed with with cityboy mixed with Gypsies, cigarettes and whisky. You can’t live the life, cause it’ll kill you, but you can come dance to the music.

Jan Klassen loves his family but lacks the communication skills to express his frustration with the modern world, so he beats his wife relentlessly

In Dutch, Punch and Judy are called Jan Klaasen. And now you can see a good old fashioned puppet show like they’ve been doing for 100’s of years, for free, right in the middle of Dam Square. It’s in Dutch, but your kids will laugh as Jan gets whacked in the head 50 times anyway.

What’s Up Amsterdam TV May 5 2014

This week, from Sarah-Jane Threipland and Chef Tony Vicentino.

Sarah Jane talks Noord Amsterdam, Tony’s on the DJ tip and Nate brings the rock.

Sarah Jane’s picks

Cityscapes exhibiting in De Toren, Overhoeksplein.
Marcus Koppen Photography‘s CITYSCAPE PROJECT was born of a fascination with the rapid change of urban landscapes in the Megacities as architects and urban planners try to create living spaces in response to an ever-growing demand for shelter. All photos consist of multiple analog format shots thoroughly combined together. The end results are photographs of bright and colorful cityscapes that display an amazing level of detail.
de Toren is open on Friday til Sunday 11:00am til until the last person leaves… so 6:00am, unless the weather is amazing so then it’ll open up extra.  There’s a special exhibition going on in the toilets at the same time (!) the X-rated ladyboy project ‘The Girl Got Balls ‘. FREE!! More info here
London Calling in de Tolhuistuin
Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th will find London Calling for first place in the Garden Room Tolhuistuin! This new venue in Amsterdam North officially opened last weekend in his first official opening concert with The Kik and are proud to include London Calling this week. The lineup is great, full of rocking bands (Klaxons, Glass Animals, Sivu, Young & Sick and so much more!) And the location is also top – rain or shine!
Cost — Day pass €12,50 | 4 Day Ticket €45 More info here
3D Print Canal House
“The 3D Print Canal House researches how 3D printing techniques can offer solutions to housing questions worldwide.”

DUS Architects had a vision, one of not being bound by materials or the usual thinking around house structures. They then set out to prove their philosophy by designing a house that can be assembled piece by printed piece, a little like the picture above shows in miniature, on a 3D printer. With a proper (close-up) look at the 3D Print Canal House it soon becomes apparent what a massive project this is for them, and not just the scale of printing a full size house—this project will take them a further three years to finish and the pieces they’re printing are life-sized.

Open Monday to Fridays 11am-5pm, plus first weekends of the month 11am-5pm, Badhuiskade 11, Amsterdam Noord. More info here

Basis CLUB
Basis is opening its doors once again on Saturday May 10th. It used to be on the Vijzelstraat 66 but closed last year and moved some of its events to DOKA. Now it’s opening in a new place on Saturday – Tolstraat 182. Click here for more info

Heineken’s Amsterdam is open until 11th May, go now

103738257_136034041581150 years ago, Gerard Heineken acquired De Hooiberg brewery and went on to build a new brewery on Amsterdam’s Stadhouderskade four years later – laying the foundations for the all-conquering multinational and to a certain extent, Amsterdam as we know it today. This smorgasbord of nerdgasm-fulfilling products ranges from tradition puzzles to tactical collectible miniature games to brain-teasers. Everything from mancala to chess can be found here. Oh.  SUNDAY 23rd

Kasteel De Haar

JVH_7555-300x20030 minutes from Amsterdam is Kasteel De Haar. Originally built in 1391 it was in the De Haar family until 1441 when the last De Haar died with no male heir. Which is shitty since maybe he had a daughter that wanted a castle. After dude dies it was passed to the Van Zuylen family then in 1641 the last male Van Zuylen died — of dehydration from trying to make a son — the castle fell into ruins and then in 1890 Etienne Gustave Frédéric Baron van Zuylen van Nyevelt van de Haar was given the castle, which is ALSO the plot of the John Goodman movie, King Ralph. Etienne Gustave Frédéric Baron van Zuylen van Nyevelt van de Haar knew he had a long ass name, but had to be shocked when out of fucking NO-WHERE he was given a fucking CASTLE. So he’s married to this chick named Baroness Hélène de Rothschild who’s loaded to the tits and she pays to have the castle rebuilt. They hire a famous architect named Pierre Cuypers and he soaks them for 15 years rebuilding the castle to its current glory of 200 rooms and 30 bathrooms. Wikipedia lists the condition of the castle as “good” which seems insulting.

Finally, you should know that although the castle is entrusted to the foundation that maintains and runs the castle the van Zuylen has use of the castle for one month a year, so if you see a dude walking around in a robe, that’s a van Zuylen.
